Despite sweltering heat, the Saskatoon Valkyries managed to beat their provincial rivals, the Regina Riot, 35-21 in the final game of the Prairie Conference’s regular season.
Even though the Valkyries managed to come out on top, the Riot came back strong in the second half of the game.
“They played us hard all game—the first quarter was real hard, it was back and forth so it was a little nervous for us and they finished real hard to—so it’s funny how those momentum swings happen in football, but you have to be able ride those out.”
Head coach of the Regina Riot, Jon Baxter said even though he was pleased with the end result—it was his team’s inability to complete passes that lead to the loss.
The Valkyries will take on the Lethbridge Steel on July 14 at Griffiths Stadium at 7 p.m. for the Western Women’s Canadian Football League Championship.
